Intern-Trainee - Epidemic Aging and Regeneration

Position Summary:

The research in the Tian lab focuses on the role of epigenetic instability in the aging process. The lab aims to understand how the epigenetic landscape is set up and maintained and why the maintenance system fails, which contributes to aging and leads to age-related diseases such as cancer and neurodegeneration. The Intern-Trainee will be working directly with the PI and other researchers in the lab and will be involved in projects related to epigenetic aging and rejuvenation. The Intern-Trainee contributes to the completion of projects by performing a variety of experimental procedures and tests, processing samples, collecting data, and setting up and operating equipment. The Intern-Trainee will develop a strong track record of research experience to facilitate their future career development.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform bioinformatics analysis for epigenomic data
  • Perform cell culture and molecular experiments related to epigenetics and neuroscience
  • Perform animal-related work including inventory, mouse genotyping, and behavioral assays
  • Provides interpretation and analysis of results
  • Discuss the project progress with the PI and present in weekly lab meetings
  • Practice troubleshooting skills by developing solutions to technical problems of moderate to high scope using independent thinking, literature, and colleagues as resources
  • Keep detailed written records of experiments and data organization
  • Follow all appropriate safety protocols and maintain a clean and safe laboratory environment.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Currently enrolled in and pursuing a degree in accredited post-secondary academic institutions in one of the biological science or related studies
  • Students in their junior or senior years are preferred
  • In good academic standing with home institution
  • Participating in an internship program fulfills the educational objectives of their current degree programs at their home institutions
  • Must possess English language skills sufficient to function on a day-to-day basis in the internship environment

  • Possess good work ethics and strong time management skills
  • Able to analyze and resolve issues of simple to moderate complexity

Compensation:

The candidates must secure sufficient funding to support their entire Intern-Trainee program.
