Postdoctoral Associate - Cancer Metabolism and Systemic Disease

Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute is dedicated to recruiting the best scientists across various disciplines, including cancer biology, neurobiology, immunobiology, and biology of development, regeneration, and aging. Leveraging the Prebys Center, the Institute’s unique state-of-the-art drug discovery and chemical biology center with a wealth of in-house data, we emphasize translating our basic research findings towards improving interventions against human diseases.

Summary:

Research in the Commisso lab (www.commissolab.com) centers on understanding what drives cancer progression with the goal of identifying targetable pathways that can be exploited to design novel therapeutic modalities. For recent examples of our exciting work see PMID: 33653692 and PMID: 37814011.

Postdoctoral Associate positions are available to study:

· Cancer cell metabolism

· Cancer as a systemic disease

Under limited direction, the Postdoctoral Associate will plan and manage all aspects of a research project from research design to publication.

Duties and Responsibilities:

· Research design and planning

· Experimentation and troubleshooting

· Data collection, analysis, and interpretation

· Data recording and compliance

· Management of collaborations, both internal and external

· Results summarization

· Preparation of text and figures for grants and manuscripts

Education and/or Experience:

· Ph.D. in biomedical sciences.

· Experience with culturing mammalian cancer cells in vitro, molecular biology techniques and using mouse models of cancer is required.

· Experience with immunohistochemistry and microscopy is preferred.

Other Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities:

· Demonstrated ability to conduct and publish research projects

· Work independently as well as in a team environment

· Be responsible and have strong time management skills

· Able to analyze and resolve issues of high/moderate complexity

· Possess strong attention to detail and organizational skills

· Demonstrate professional communication and interpersonal skills

· Professional proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator, Prism, ImageJ/Fiji

Compensation:

The expected compensation for this position is between $68,016.00 - $75,004.80/year commensurate with experience.
