Position Summary:

  • The Marth Laboratory at Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute seeks a Postdoctoral Associate. This position will be hired at the post-doctoral level and focused on medically relevant research spanning one or more common diseases and syndromes including diabetes, sepsis, colitis, autoimmunity, and cancer.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform independent experiments with guidance as part of an established team.
  • Keep detailed notes and records and follow established protocols.
  • Proactively share results with Principal Investigator and laboratory team members.
  • Speak at formal lab presentations and other meetings about progress made.
  • Multitask on various technical approaches as needed.
  • Interaction with collaborating scientists, physicians, and patients when needed.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Ph.D. in the biological sciences or M.D. degree or both.
  • Candidates with past research publications in peer-reviewed journals preferred.
  • Hands on training and experience in basic biomedical laboratory techniques applied to mouse and human species including molecular genetics, protein biochemistry, microscopy, histology, and cell culture.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States.

Other Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities:

  • Must be organized, time efficient, prompt, and work as part of a high-functioning team of scientists.
  • Must speak, write, understand, and have daily conversations in fluent, academic English.
  • Multi-task as necessary for timely completion of research projects.
  • Show respectful, interactive, and supportive spirit.
  • Comfortable with frequent communication with others.
  • Must balance independence and self-reliance with willingness and proactiveness to learn new skills.
  • Preference to those with knowledge and expertise in immunology and protein glycosylation.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Compensation:

  • The expected hiring range for this position is $70,000 - $75,000 - (NIH Salary Scale.)
